Submitted by amy.ewell on

If you’re a Utah student interested in agriculture and leadership, the Youth Pork Ambassador Scholarship from the Utah Pork Producers Association (UPPA) is a standout opportunity. Selected students serve as ambassadors for the pork industry while earning a scholarship to help support their college or technical education.

What’s This Scholarship About?

As a Youth Pork Ambassador, you will:

  • Represent the Utah Pork Producers Association at events throughout the state.

  • Gain hands-on experience in agriculture, communication, and leadership.

  • Earn a $2,500 scholarship after completing program requirements and enrolling in a technical college, community college, or university.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants must:

  • Be Utah residents.

  • Be high school juniors through college juniors as of January 1 of the program year.

  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA and maintain it during the ambassador term.

  • Be enrolled in or planning to enroll in a higher-education program.

  • Have the ability to attend required events (with personal or family transportation support).

Experience in agriculture or the pork industry is helpful but not required.

Ambassador Responsibilities

Applicants selected as ambassadors agree to complete the following during their term:

  • Attend at least five events such as Farm Field Days, State Fair activities, or UPPA-sponsored events.

  • Participate in a virtual training session.

  • Cook four pork recipes, photograph them, and write a brief description of each.

  • Read four assigned books and submit summaries.

  • Prepare a short “Me in 30 Seconds” personal statement, plus a bio and photo.

  • Submit a one-page final essay about what they learned as an ambassador.

These activities help ambassadors build confidence, communication skills, and real-world agricultural experience.

Why This Opportunity Matters

  • You gain more than money. The ambassador role gives you industry insight, leadership development, and hands-on learning.

  • You build a strong resume. Colleges and employers value authentic leadership and community involvement.

  • You connect with professionals. UPPA events help you meet producers, educators, and agricultural leaders.

  • You grow your skills. Cooking, presenting, writing, organizing, and educating others are all part of the experience.

Whether you want a future in agriculture, animal science, food production, education, or communications, this program helps you take meaningful steps toward your goals.
