Mountainland Technical College (MTECH) welcomed students, families, educators, industry partners, and community members to the official ribbon cutting celebration for its new Payson Campus on Friday, September 19, 2025. The event marked a major
milestone for the college and the surrounding communities as MTECH expanded hands-on technical education opportunities in southern Utah County.
The program began at 10:00 AM with remarks from students and community leaders, followed by the ribbon cutting at 10:30 AM and an open house until noon. Visitors toured the new 90,000-square-foot facility, met faculty and staff, and explored modern labs and classrooms built to support high-demand training programs. This state-of-the-art campus is MTECH’s fifth location, designed by Method Studio and constructed by Layton Construction after years of planning and collaboration.
The Payson Campus houses programs across MTECH’s key instructional areas, including the Clyde School of Trades, School of Healthcare, School of Services, School of Technology, and Apprenticeships. Programs offered at the new site include Automation Technology, Automotive Technology, Diesel Technology, Welding Technology, Dental Assisting, Medical Assistant, Nurse Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Culinary Arts, and Digital Marketing and Analytics. Additional offerings such as Cosmetology and Nail Technician programs are planned for the near future. The campus emphasizes hands-on learning, strong job placement, and affordable pathways leading to high-wage careers.

Speakers at the event highlighted the impact of the new campus on both students and the region. Sam, an MTECH Digital Marketing and Analytics graduate and School of Technology Student of the Year, shared how the college shaped his future, saying, “MTECH isn't just where I learned technical skills. It’s where I found direction, confidence, and a community that really wants to see students succeed.” Payson Mayor Bill Wright called the opening “a milestone for Payson City.”
Representative Doug Welton, local educator and Utah House Representative, added, “This is more than a building, it’s a dream over a decade in the making. Grateful to Method Studio for their design work. MTECH represents what I call an all-of-the-above approach to education. Every student path is different. Some will go into a four-year degree, others will go into trades, healthcare, or technology. The strength of Utah is in supporting all these pathways in connecting education with opportunity. It raises individual capacity, strengthens industry, and lifts our community, state, and nation.”
MTECH President Clay Christensen emphasized the purpose behind the new facility, saying, “This is a place where students will be able to fulfill their dreams, launch their careers, and the needs of industry and community can be fulfilled.”
Located at 993 South 1950 West in Payson, the new campus strengthens MTECH’s role as a leader in technical education and workforce development. The ribbon cutting showcased community collaboration, regional vision, and a shared commitment to expanding opportunities for Utah’s next generation of learners.
