In an effort to support the aspirations of recent high school graduates with a passion for public safety, the state of Utah proudly presents the Karen Mayne Public Safety Officer Scholarship Program. This initiative is designed to provide financial assistance to individuals committed to serving as public safety officers, fostering a new generation of dedicated professionals in the field.
Karen Maybe Public Safety Officer Scholarship Application
The Karen Mayne Public Safety Officer Scholarship is available for recent high school graduates who aspire to become public safety officers. For high school graduates in 2024 and renewal applicants, the application period opens on January 2, 2024, with a priority deadline of January 19, 2024, and a final deadline of March 20, 2024. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Graduate from a Utah high school
- When eligible, enroll in a basic training course at a state-certified academy
- Enroll in a qualifying degree program or receive an approved deferral at an eligible institution beginning the fall semester after high school graduation
- Commit to working as a certified peace officer in Utah for a minimum of five years after POST certification
- Not a recipient of a PSOCAG award
- Complete the FAFSA
The scholarship covers tuition, fees, and books, offering financial support to recipients pursuing their education in public safety. The award amount varies based on the availability of funding, and successful applicants can benefit for up to four academic years, including the duration of POST certification.
