Get ready for an evening of career exploration, hands-on fun, and FREE ice cream! On Monday, September 22nd, MTECH’s Lehi Campus will host the annual “Get the Scoop on Career and Technical Education” event—an exciting, family-friendly opportunity for 7th- and 8th-grade students and their parents to discover Utah’s high-demand, high-skill, and high-wage career pathways.
This regional celebration of Career and Technical Education (CTE) brings together Alpine School District, Utah Valley University, and Mountainland Technical College to showcase more than 70 interactive booths. Students will explore everything from UVU’s Firefighter Academy and MTECH’s Diesel Technology program to Alpine School District's Animal Science displays, Life Flight demonstrations, and dozens of additional hands-on stations that spark curiosity and build confidence.
Explore 14 Career Clusters
Students and families can rotate through Utah’s full range of career clusters, including Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering, Agriculture, Arts, Entertainment and Design, Business, Management & Entrepreneurship, Construction, Digital Technology, Education, Energy and Natural Resources, Financial Services, Health Science & Human Services, Hospitality, Events & Tourism, Marketing, Public Service & Safety, and Supply Chain & Transportation.

These clusters help middle school students discover their strengths early and understand how high school coursework connects to real employment opportunities, college programs, and industry credentials.
Why CTE Matters
According to the Utah State Board of Education (USBE), CTE Pathways directly link students’ classroom success to real-world career options, helping them transition smoothly into postsecondary programs or workforce opportunities. Students who engage in CTE can earn certificates, develop technical skills, and build a strong foundation for two- and four-year degrees through hands-on, relevant, career-aligned learning.
Concurrent Enrollment will also be highlighted at the event. Last year alone, Utah high school students earned over 132,000 CTE college credits, saving time and money as they worked toward industry certifications and degrees.
What to Expect at the Event
More than 5,000 students and families are expected to attend. Guests can enjoy free ice cream for everyone, hands-on demonstrations, prizes and take-home activities, exposure to new technology, and opportunities to connect with program advisors and industry partners.
It’s the perfect opportunity for families to explore career possibilities, ask questions, and see firsthand how Utah’s education partners are preparing students for high-wage, high-demand fields.
